Back in 2000, Pantone launched its first official colour of the year (Cerulean, if you’re interested), sparked global fashion hysteria and causing a tidal wave of trends mirroring Pantone’s announcement.
It’s such an institution that it is eagerly awaited each year, and we were delighted to hear that 2018 will be the year of Ultra-Violet – a powerful, vibrant and provocative shade – reminiscent of 90’s nightclubs, Prince, mystics and modern-day mindfulness.

Exec director of the Pantone Colour Institute, Leatrice Eiseman, explained: “We’re living in a time that requires inventiveness and imagination. It is this kind of creative inspiration that is indigenous to PANTONE 18-3838 Ultra Violet, a blue-based purple that takes our awareness and potential to a higher level.
“From exploring new technologies and the greater galaxy, to artistic expressions and spiritual reflection, intuitive Ultra Violet lights the way to what is yet to come.”

The colour has predictably been popular with celebrities, too – Beyonce (natch) was ahead of the game back in October 2017, and model Karlie Kloss wore a UV leather skirt at a recent party.
