Lou Watson UK-based Lingerie Designer, Fabric & Sketch Collage

Lingerie Interview: Lou Watson

Like most people, I'm really not a Monday person. I'm all out of sync and in dire need of coffee. So to perk all of us up this dreary Monday, today's blog is going to be a little bit different. The LW team were lucky enough to have a chat with Lou Watson, a UK-based lingerie designer and corset-maker. Nothing beats a Monday like lingerie talks!

Interview: Lou Watson

Have you always wanted to make lingerie and why?

I always wanted to create corsets and bridal gowns. The lingerie fascination came later on when I was at sixth form and was trying to make fetish wear and bondage part of a final project.

How did you get into lingerie design and where did you study?

I studied Contour Fashion at De Montfort University. I have always loved fashion and corsetry, but a science teacher saw one of my art projects in college. He advised me to look at the course and apply - the rest is fairy tale history.

What's your biggest career achievement this year/ever?

I made the decision at the end of 2016 to freelance full-time. It was a risk, but it has definitely paid off! I make my own designs when I can, which I use in photo-shoots and send to fashion shows. Seeing models strutting down the catwalk in my designs, receiving images and the positive feedback from people is always an achievement.

Where do you regularly hang out at the weekend?

I’m usually bobbing around Leicester or Sheffield – whether it's wandering around the city without any place to be, chilling in a bar, or sitting quietly hand sewing.

What are your predictions on the trends for SS18?

I think the bondage look combined with more embroidery and oriental floral prints. Transparent designs with lace/embroidered motifs will still be on trend, but they will be even more delicate and colourful.

What’s your favourite cocktail?

Italian Appletini – gin, apple sours, amaretto and cranberry juice. Bella.

Who's your style icon and why?

Audrey Hepburn, timeless and chic. One day I will own a Givenchy style dress and walk down 5th Avenue!

What’s your favourite snack?

Coconut and vanilla popcorn! And smarties..

What are you listening to right now?

Nicki Minaj on Spotify

Do you read any blogs, magazines or other publications?

I read a lot of the Lingerie Addict for reviews, new lines/brands and lingerie news.

You have the nicest lingerie, what makes the perfect bra and why?

Fit and design are obvious factors to make the perfect bra, but personally, I think it is the fabrics, delicate laces or strapping details and sparkly embellishments. But, no bows!!

What piece of advice would you give to your 15-year-old self?

Nothing at all! My 15-year-old self wouldn’t listen.

How do you celebrate/practise #selflove and stay confident?

I wear matching lingerie every day. I feel confident and sexy knowing that I can wear it for myself and only I know that it's there.

Do you have a favourite quote?

"Better to be over dressed and fabulous, than under dressed and polite." From The Mistress by Martine McCutcheon.

What is your idea of the perfect Friday night?

After a long week, I love curling up on my sofa with a blanket, a cheeky beverage and watching Horror films.

Lou designed our new triangle satin bra, Grace, which will be featuring in our AW17 collection coming soon
