There are only 18 brands in the world that qualify for the exclusive title of haute couture. Twice a year they show in Paris for one of the most creative and theatrical fashion shows of the fashion calender.
So we decided to look at the trends of this year's couture week to see how we could get inspired!
What is couture?
Haute means high and couture means sewing. To produce couture, you must be registered with Syndical Chamber for Haute Couture in Paris. There are a series of strict regulations concerning the production of couture which are:
- The brand must make 35 separate outfits including day and evening wear
- The brand have to show two collections per year
- Each dress takes 100 -400 hours to make and can cost around $26,000
- Only 2,000 women in the world buy couture with 60% of the sales coming from America.
- The brand must employ 15 people or more.
