WEIRD AND WONDERFUL CHOCOLATE FACTS FOR EASTER 2018

There’s loads of stuff we didn’t know about chocolate – besides the fact that it’s delicious and we love it – so here’s the Little Women fact file on all things chocolate.

We’re salivating every time we go to the supermarket. There’s aisles full to brimming with chocolate of all shapes and sizes, chocolate cakes, chocolate bunnies, chocolate as far as the eye can see and the nose can detect. Nom nom!

So, in the name of research we’ve chomped our way through a load of eggs and other Easter delights whilst we put together our very own Little Women guide to chocolate.

Everyone loves the Easter Yummy…. Um, we mean the Easter Bunny

See? There is such a thing as death by chocolate

Willy Wonka’s chocolate river

Remember the original Charlie and the Chocolate factory from the delightful Roald Dahl back in 1971. Well, that chocolate river was REAL, so when Augustus Gloop fell in and almost drowned he was covered head to toe on the delicious stuff… Almost like a Magnum ice-lolly really. Anyway, the bad news is it went off pretty quickly and stunk the film studios out.

Where did chocolate come from?

Chocolate originated in South America around 4,000 years ago. But for most of its history chocolate was consumed as a bitter drink rather than as a sweet edible treat, often with chillies added to it.

Chocolate IS good for you

The smell of chocolate increases theta brain waves, which triggers relaxation. Eating dark chocolate every day reduces the risk of heart disease by one-third. So, go on ladies, indulge yourselves.

Chocolate is GOOD for your teeth

Chocolate has an anti-bacterial effect on the mouth and protects against tooth decay…. It’s the sugar that does the damage. It is also more effective at treating coughs than codeine.

Belgian chocolate

Belgium, has long been famed for its chocolate production, so much so that they even issued chocolate flavoured stamps. Now if that isn’t a reason to write a letter we don’t know what is.

Forget the Easter Bunny, think Easter Grasshopper

The average chocolate bar contains around 8 insect parts! But don’t let that put you off; it’s merely added protein.

Chocolate blowing in the wind

There is a pill that makes farts smell like chocolate. We’re not sure why anyone would invent such a thing, but we know a few people we think should be prescribed them!

Why chocolate melts in the mouth

Chocolate is the only edible substance that melts just below human body temperature at 93° F, that’s why it melts in your mouth.

Remove the fat from chocolate

Scientists can reduce the fat in chocolate by 20% by passing it through an electric field. And the Little Women team can reduce a family size chocolate bar to nothing in about 10 seconds flat!

But you better make the most of it

Because due to global climate change Cacao plants are expected to disappear by as early as 2050. Either that or buy a greenhouse and start growing your own.

And finally, we’ll leave you with a great quote from one of histories most famous and revered writers
