There’s loads of stuff we didn’t know about chocolate – besides the fact that it’s delicious and we love it – so here’s the Little Women fact file on all things chocolate.
We’re salivating every time we go to the supermarket. There’s aisles full to brimming with chocolate of all shapes and sizes, chocolate cakes, chocolate bunnies, chocolate as far as the eye can see and the nose can detect. Nom nom!
So, in the name of research we’ve chomped our way through a load of eggs and other Easter delights whilst we put together our very own Little Women guide to chocolate.

World chocolate day 2018
There is a day entirely dedicated to chocolate called World Chocolate Day and this year it falls on July 7th. Take the day off, stay home, eat chocolate.

Willy Wonka’s chocolate river
Remember the original Charlie and the Chocolate factory from the delightful Roald Dahl back in 1971. Well, that chocolate river was REAL, so when Augustus Gloop fell in and almost drowned he was covered head to toe on the delicious stuff… Almost like a Magnum ice-lolly really. Anyway, the bad news is it went off pretty quickly and stunk the film studios out.
Where did chocolate come from?
Chocolate originated in South America around 4,000 years ago. But for most of its history chocolate was consumed as a bitter drink rather than as a sweet edible treat, often with chillies added to it.
Chocolate IS good for you
The smell of chocolate increases theta brain waves, which triggers relaxation. Eating dark chocolate every day reduces the risk of heart disease by one-third. So, go on ladies, indulge yourselves.

Chocolate is GOOD for your teeth
Chocolate has an anti-bacterial effect on the mouth and protects against tooth decay…. It’s the sugar that does the damage. It is also more effective at treating coughs than codeine.
Belgium, has long been famed for its chocolate production, so much so that they even issued chocolate flavoured stamps. Now if that isn’t a reason to write a letter we don’t know what is.
Forget the Easter Bunny, think Easter Grasshopper
The average chocolate bar contains around 8 insect parts! But don’t let that put you off; it’s merely added protein.
Chocolate blowing in the wind
There is a pill that makes farts smell like chocolate. We’re not sure why anyone would invent such a thing, but we know a few people we think should be prescribed them!
Why chocolate melts in the mouth
Chocolate is the only edible substance that melts just below human body temperature at 93° F, that’s why it melts in your mouth.
Remove the fat from chocolate
Scientists can reduce the fat in chocolate by 20% by passing it through an electric field. And the Little Women team can reduce a family size chocolate bar to nothing in about 10 seconds flat!
